About the scholarship

The Hamza Mustafa Memorial Bursary is for Bachelor of Veterinary Science students who are experiencing financial need. Established in memory of Hamza Mustafa, a 16-year-old student who tragically lost his life in the Christchurch mosque shootings, this bursary aims to support students who share his ambition of studying veterinary science. The bursary was made possible through fundraising efforts and contributions from various sponsors.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science program. Include a personal statement of no more than 300 words outlining your financial need and how you would use these funds should you be successful. Supporting evidence of financial hardship is optional. A 500 to 1000-word essay on the importance of inclusivity in the veterinary profession is also required. Preference may be given to applicants who are Muslim or belong to an under-represented ethnic group in the veterinary profession, and those originally from the Canterbury region.
