About the scholarship

Kahurangi Scholarships recognise Māori students who demonstrate strength of engagement with te ao Māori, involvement in their community, leadership responsibilities, and performance in the arts, sports, or other cultural contexts. Scholarships are valued at $7,000 or up to $32,000. The highest value scholarship package includes full accommodation costs for the first year in a Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington hall of residence, plus $5,000 towards tuition fees in the second year and $5,000 stipend towards study costs in the third year of study. First-year tauira Māori who want to live and learn alongside other tauira Māori while maintaining their tikanga can choose to stay on the Marino floor in Joan Stevens Hall with dedicated pastoral support. For students who are not in a hall, a $5,000 fees contribution can be taken in the first and second year and a $5,000 stipend towards study costs in the third year of study.
