Pūhoro has partnered with He Oranga Hauora - Healthier Lives on a new scholarship targeted at tauira Māori studying data and related fields.

He Oranga Hauora is a kaupapa as part of the National Science Challenges umbrella that aims to improve the prevention and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, and achieve equitable health outcomes in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The collaborative national research programme envisions a future in which Māori are research leaders in data science. With this scholarship, they aim to raise awareness about the importance of data science in health disciplines, to manaaki young Māori data scientists who have the potential to someday lead research in these fields, and to demonstrate the impact and viability of scholarships for Māori in data science.

This partnership also seeks to bring awareness to the indigenous data sovereignty movement and recognises the inherent rights and responsibilities indigenous people have over their data, particularly in how it relates to Māori data sovereignty.
