UMatter Award

Background In response to the findings of the UMatter survey, Unitec has created the UMatter 2017 Award to support students facing financial difficulties to continue and succeed in their studies. Please read the UMatter Award Regulations for full details. Eligibility Criteria New Zealand citizen or holder of a New Zealand Permanent Resident visa Enrolled in at least 30 credits in a Level 3 or higher programme during Semester 2 of 2017; and Demonstrate Financial hardship - Applicants will be required to complete a budget form and provide evidence of financial need (study link student allowance, bank statement or internet banking printout); and Have paid student fees or arranged to pay student fees Selection Criteria Financial need Motivation to succeed in their chosen course, as demonstrated in the Scholarship application In addition to Financial Need preference will be given to applicants who are able to demonstrate via the Award application one or more of the following characteristics: Maori Pacific Under 25 years of age Single Parent Responsibilities First in family to pursue tertiary education Refugee background Progressed from a lower level Unitec course or programme Application Details Funding for 2019 Scholarships not yet confirmed. To apply you will need to complete an online application form. You should have the following information ready before you start the application because you cannot save and return to it. Short Answers (100-150 words per each question) to the following questions: a. Please identify your financial difficulties and how they're affecting your studies (i.e. commuting costs, family to support, childcare costs, general living expenses, etc) b. How would this Award help or support you in your studies? c. Why are you interested in your current programme? What motivates you to succeed in your studies? Approximate amount of money you receive (income, student allowance, benefits, etc) and spend (accommodation, course related costs, transport, childcare, etc) on a weekly basis. A copy of your last two month's bank statements and/or MyStudylink account printout showing Student Loan Living Costs and/or Student Allowance and Course Related Costs or W&I core benefit entitlement documentation. Funding for 2020 Scholarships not yet confirmed. Application Help We will also hold pop-in sessions to answer any questions and help students apply.
