The Michael Barnett Scholarship

Michael was appointed chief executive of the Auckland Chamber in 1991. He has led the Chamber through times of change and challenge while maintaining focus on what was good for business and good for Auckland. Michael’s role as chief executive has enabled him to contribute on issues of trade and policy for growing our economy and provided a voice for business. It's allowed him to pursue initiatives that have enabled youth to participate in the workforce and provide leadership on matters of diversity and advocated on behalf of business on issues including “red tape” education, transport, international trade, ports and local government efficiency. He was an elected local Government politician for 9 years. He was made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2011.

The Auckland Chamber of Commerce has established a scholarship to mark Michael Barnett’s 25 years of leadership of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
