About the scholarship
The award was established in recognition of AUT’s contribution to the Deaf community through training and education connected to NZSL users. The scholarship is funded by a gift from the JR McKenzie Trust Deaf Development Fund, which was founded by philanthropist Sir Roy McKenzie.
To encourage and enable persons who are deaf and use NZ Sign Language to achieve a tertiary qualification by studying at Auckland University of Technology.
Applicants to have a hearing loss of 70 DB or more in better ear (i.e. severely deaf).
The scholarship is open to students enrolling in the second or subsequent year of a Bachelor’s degree, or enrolling in a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate degree programme.
Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
