About the scholarship
The Chatham Scheme is a bursary engineering scholarship scheme offered by the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). You will attest into the Royal New Zealand Naval Reserves and complete Junior Officer Common Training (6 months). You will then be enrolled at university and study a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or a Bachelor of Engineering Technology at the University of Auckland, Massey University (Albany campus) or Auckland University of Technology. Specialisations include mechanical, mechatronics, chemical, electrical or electronics, computer or software engineering. Upon graduation, you will transition to full time service in the Royal New ZealandNavy as a Marine Engineer Officer or a Weapons Engineer Officer. You are required to complete one year return of service for every year of sponsored study. The value of this scholarship includes all university fees and associated expenses plus an $8000 annual allowance plus $2000 annual performance bonus.

Entry requirements
NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance into an approved programme of study. Tertiary students in their first, second, or third year of sponsored study in an approved programme and/or specialisation. Meet the aptitude, fitness, citizenship, security and medical requirements for enlistment into the New Zealand Defence Force. Successfully pass an RNZN Officer Selection Board.
