About the scholarship

The Manawatu Kilwinning Lodge No. 47, in conjunction with Master Builders and Universal College of Learning, are pleased to offer scholarships for further study to qualified trades people in the construction industry. The aim of the scholarship is to assist those aspiring to broaden their career and become involved in the wider construction industry in the Manawatu and Whanganui regions. The successful applicant will receive a contribution of $6,000 towards their fees to study one of the following Level 6 Diploma programmes at UCOL: • New Zealand Diploma in Business • New Zealand Diploma in Construction (with strands in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying) • New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology The programmes can be delivered as either a twoyear full-time programme, or part-time, enabling the applicant to continue with their full-time employment whilst completing their qualification.

How To Apply

As part of the application process, applicants will be required to attend a 30 minute interview in the week commencing 21st October. The successful applicant will be announced at an event held at UCOL in November, and study will commence at UCOL in February the following year.

Entry requirements

APPLICANTS MUST: • Work and live in the district covered by the Manawatu Branch and Whanganui Branch of Registered Master Builders New Zealand; • Have completed a carpentry apprenticeship within the construction industry, and be a Registered Master Builder, or in the employ of a Registered Master Builder, in the above district; • Have completed no less than two years in the construction industry after completion of a carpentry apprenticeship; • Complete the programme within 5 years of commencing (unless by prior agreement) to receive the full scholarship; • Be a New Zealand citizen or hold permanent New Zealand residency; • Demonstrate a will to succeed in the building trade; • Have leadership skills; and • Have proven community commitment.
