About the scholarship

The Southern Hearing Charitable Trust (SHCT) has among its objects a desire to increase the attainability of cochlear implants for members of the general public who would benefit from the same, and to provide the opportunity for each individual to reach their full potential particularly in respect of their auditory-verbal skills. The SHCT has a charitable grants committee that oversees a scholarship fund for cochlear implant recipients pursuing tertiary study.

Each year the SHCT will award ONE scholarship to a cochlear implant recipient enrolling in a tertiary-level training programme or study.

How To Apply

Complete the application form through electronic or written form. The application form is required to include: a) Name, address and contact details b) A short personal statement c) Academic transcripts and CV d) University admissions notice (if available) e) A succinct list of the principle activities and awards in school or community (including prizes, scholarships, offices held, athletic record and and extracurricular activities) with dates f) One photocopy of your birth certificate, passport or other proof of age and NZ residency/citizenship g) References

What you receive

The scholarship has a value of $5000 and will be paid as a lump sum.

Entry requirements

a) Applications will only be accepted from those residing in the catchment area of the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme b) Applications will only be accepted from cochlear implant recipients c) Applications will be accepted from those already enrolled in a tertiary training programme, as well as those who have not previously enrolled in a course of study c) Previous scholarship recipients may re-apply but preference will be given to those applying for the first time
