About the scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to support the research of one PhD candidate to investigate factors contributing to the conditions necessary to culture anaerobic bacteria from the hindgut of seaweed eating fish. This student will be fully funded as part of an Endeavour Fund grant from the Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation (MBIE).

Applicants must apply through the AUT Scholarship application portal and upload: • A cover letter describing your research experience and your interest in this project • A curriculum vitae including the names and contact details of two referees. • Reference reports from two academic referees. These reports must be sent directly and confidentially to the Scholarships Office by the referees by the closing date. • Academic transcripts and certificates for any previous tertiary study completed at a university other than AUT University
Entry requirements
• Applicants with a qualifying degree associated with the research areas described above are invited to apply. • The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm and have an outstanding academic record and be prepared to conduct the doctoral study at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) based in Auckland, New Zealand. • Applying for a scholarship and admission into AUT are separate processes at AUT. Applicants must fulfil all conditions for admission to the Doctoral Programme in AUT. These can be found on the AUT University website www.aut.ac.nz. • Requirements for the Doctoral programme include having completed the required academic qualifications for direct entry and meeting the requirements for English language proficiency. Minimum English language requirement for international applicants – IELTS scores of 6.5 overall with 7 in writing and all other bands 6.0 or higher. A high proficiency in English is essential; applicants who have completed tertiary and/or postgraduate education in English are preferred.
