About the scholarship
The D W Steele Trust assists worthy applicants to gain qualifications or skills in agriculture, agricultural extension and technology transfer.
These awards are made from the annual interest earned on a trust fund of $25,000 set up by David W Steele, a farmer and tutor at the Waikato Polytechnic from 1985 to 1996. He always had the good of his students at heart, keen to help people on the first steps to further education and knowledge. The award is in memory of one of his students, Janine Young, who epitomised his ideals. She had a young family and worked very hard to gain further knowledge but died of cancer before the completion of her course.
