About the scholarship
The University of Otago Legal Issues Centre (UOLIC) and Nga Pae o te Maramatanga are offering a one year scholarship for a Maori student to complete a Master of Laws (LLM).
The Masters project will be on an area of work within the UOLIC’s research programme, which focuses on how New Zealand’s civil justice system can be more accessible, affordable, efficient, fair, and accurate. This scholarship is to support work on this area of research from a Maori perspective and thereby contributing to the broad goals of Nga Pae o te Maramatanga to realise Maori aspirations for positive engagement in national life and enhance our excellence in Indigenous scholarship.

Entry requirements
Applicants must have completed, with a B+ average, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB(Hons)) degree, or alternative qualifications and experience acceptable to the University. Study in a complementary area (e.g. Maori Studies, Sociology, Political Science, History) is preferred but not essential.
Applicants must be Maori and will need to complete the University’s ancestry verification process before the scholarship can be awarded.
