About the scholarship

These grants provide an opportunity for iwi, hapu and community groups to investigate a well-defined area of Maori health need or gain. Applications for a full project grant, worth up to 200,000 over 18 months, will open in 2019. Development grants - opening 11 July 2018 - help applicants prepare and develop a full project proposal. Development-phase funding may not exceed 5% of the total proposed budget for a full project.

Firstly, you'll need to register your intention to submit an application for this grant and then complete your registration online via HRC Gateway. After registration, you'll need to submit a full application online via HRC Gateway using the templates provided below. The final step is to send a hardcopy of your full application to the HRC.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for one of these grants, you'll need to be a New Zealand citizen or hold residency in New Zealand, and be of Maori descent. Your application should be hosted and led by an iwi, hapu or other community based group or organisation. It may involve a partnership with a larger research entity (e.g. university), but it must be clearly driven by the needs and focus of the community or community organisation.
