About the scholarship
The establishment of two Maui Pomare Scholarships were announced at Sir Maui Pomare Day in 2009. The Scholarships were presented by the Chief Executive of Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (WITT) to encourage and support prospective Maori students into nursing.
Entry requirements
? Applicants must have verification of enrolment in the WITT Bachelor of Nursing year one degree programme and demonstrate leadership qualities. ? Preference will be given to applicants who show a commitment to the Taranaki region. Endorsement will be required from a member of the Maori community. Evidence of whakapapa, leadership activities, te reo Maori me ona tikanga, and links with community and the Maori community will formulate the basis of the application. ? Academic ability is essential, and this will be determined by the inclusion of a written piece of work with the application. ? As it is important that iwi are aware of the recipients, the successful applicants will be required to attend Maui Pomare Day at Owae Marae on the last Saturday in June. They will be supported to undertake a mihi to the Pomare family.
