About the scholarship

Being a minority in the creative industries can be tough. Ironic, because our industries pride themselves on unique perspectives and rare minds. RARE is a masterclass to help minorities flourish by arming under represented talent with the tools, inspiration and network needed to thrive today and lead tomorrow. D&AD Rare are providing scholarships to drive and retain diversity in the creative industries. The scholarships are open to current second year students studying the Bachelor of Communication Studies or the Bachelor of Design at AUT who identify as belonging to one of the diversity groups referred to in the Regulations, is seen as a good role models by peers and who have excelled in effort and achievement in the first two years of their tertiary education.

How To Apply

Application for this scholarship is on-line through the on-line AUT scholarships portal from mid-September. Applicants will be asked to upload: · Academic transcripts for any tertiary study completed at any institution other than AUT. · A personal statement (max 1000 words) explaining why they believe they should receive this scholarship. Applicants must provide in this statement their personal history as to their indentified diversity. Applicants should describe any involvement to date in related diversity or community groups and any future academic or career goals.

Applicants must request one referee to provide a letter of support through the on-line scholarships application portal. · The referee may be either a mentor or person of standing in the community who can attest to the applicant’s character and involvement in diversity or community group activities. · Applicants are requested to ensure that their referees are aware of the scholarship deadline.

Entry requirements

• The scholarship is open to students enrolled in the second year of the Bachelor of Communication Studies or the Bachelor of Design at AUT at the time of application, who will be commencing their third year of study in semester one 2019. • Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. • Applicants must identify as belonging to one of the below diversity groups:

  • Maori and Pacific;
  • Disability;
  • Rainbow - lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer;
  • Neurodivergent – autism, dyslexia and other divergent styles of thinking;
  • Women in areas where they are under-represented.
