About the scholarship
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in recognition of its partnership with Ngati Whatua Orakei has established undergraduate scholarships to increase participation, retention and success of Maori (of Ngati Whatua Orakei descent) who have demonstrated the academic potential to succeed at tertiary level. As well as recognising academic achievement in students of Ngati Whatua Orakei descent, these scholarships recognise potential leadership ability and contribution to the school, and community.

As well as recognising academic achievement in students of Ngati Whatua Orakei descent, these scholarships recognise potential leadership ability and contribution to the school, and community.
Selection criteria: • Applicants must be NZ Citizens or permanent residents. • The applicant must be a registered Ngati Whatua Orakei hapu member. If you are not a registered member, please return a completed registration form to [email protected]. A registration form can be found on the Ngati Whatua Orakei website: http://ngatiwhatuaorakei.com/whakapapa-registration-d5187faf-3c82-4cf8-9002-a55acbd972a9. Please note that the registration process could take up to two months . • Students who are not of Ngati Whatua Orakei descent will not be eligible to receive this scholarship. • Applicants must be enrolling for the first time, in a full-time programme of study and will be asked to provide their AUT Student ID in the box provided on the application form. • Applicants will be expected to obtain University Entrance and gain admission into a full-time programme of study at AUT University. • Applicants must have demonstrated academic potential and the potential for leadership. • Applicants must be prepared to make themselves available to participate in specific Ngati Whatua Orakei education days and to attend and assist at tertiary whanau hui at AUT during the tenure of the scholarship.
General Information: How do students apply? Application will be available from July of the year prior to study and will be through the AUT online application portal by the applicant applying for an AUT School Leavers Scholarship. Applicants will be expected to provide evidence of their Ngati Whatua Orakei Whakapapa in support of this application through the portal and upload: • A one-page personal statement explaining their reasons for wishing to attend AUT, their academic and career goals and why they believe they merit the scholarship. • A current certified copy of their NCEA record of achievement.
