Southland
Southland is New Zealand's southernmost region containing Stewart Island and the bottom of the South Island. The two main urban areas the region are the city of Invercargill, with a population of 54,700, and the town of Gore with a population of 9,890. The region's main industries are agriculture, tourism, fishing and forestry.
The region is famous for its stunning coastlines, home of the yellow eyed penguin, and the breath-taking Fiordland area. Southland is renowned for its warm welcome it extends to its newcomers, making it easy for international students to meet and get to know the locals.
