The Bay of Plenty is a region in the north of the North Island. The region's main centres are Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane. The geography of the region is diverse, stretching from incredible golden sand beaches, to mountain ranges, to flat plains, to geothermal activity including geysers. Tauranga, one of New Zealand's fastest growing cities, is a particularly popular destination during the summer thanks to the picturesque scenery of the sun kissed Mount Maunganui beach. Rotorua is a highly popular tourist destination too boasting geothermal activity, incredible lakes and adventure sports.
The region's economy centre's around agriculture, tourism and the largest port by volume in New Zealand, the Port of Tauranga. Tauranga is home to Zespri, the largest exporter of New Zealand kiwi fruit.
