About the course

MITO’s new training programme will provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely inspect, service and repair light electric vehicles. Designed in consultation with industry and available to qualified automotive technicians, this programme will ensure you have the ability to respond to the widespread adoption of light electric vehicles in New Zealand. The training programme includes a mix of practical training and assessment, undertaken via training courses delivered by a range of providers, and eLearning which allows you to complete theory elements of the programme in your own time and at your own pace. You can access eLearning resources, including videos, interactive simulations and online theory assessments, at any time and from any device – mobile phone, tablet or computer. Real-time results and progress reports are available through MITO’s online portal to both you and your supervisor.Programme OutlineLearning outcomes include:

Oversee team responsibilities and ensure compliance with legislative and company requirements to maintain a safe and effective workplace. Diagnose and repair uncommon and complex specialist system faults in light electric vehicles as an advanced technician including: 

Demonstrate knowledge of hybrid electric and battery electric vehicle systems and safety Depower and reinitialise light electric vehicles Diagnose and repair traction motor system faults Diagnose faults and replace an auxiliary starting motor  Diagnose and repair safety interlock system faults Diagnose and repair cooling system faults Diagnose and repair DC to DC system faults
