About the course
Develop your skills. learn different styles and play in a band. Learn alongside industry professionals, create original songs and gig in local venues.
Our students get the opportunity to gig with prominent artists which previously have included Annie Crummer, Warren Maxwell, Bella Kalolo, Barnaby Weir and Karl Steven.
This programme replaces the well-known Whitireia Certificate in Foundation Music.
Programme outline
This programme provides an introduction to musicianship on your chosen instrument (including the voice) and the contemporary music industry. It includes:
Introduction to Music and Music Industry
Introduction to music theory and managing a career in the music industry.
Music Instrument Studies
Application of technical skills, exploration of musical genres, personal practice.
Ensemble Workshop
Rehearsal responsibilities, working together, communicating, recording and reflecting on own learning.
Ensemble Performance
Collaborating with other performers, connecting with an audience, delivering the performance

Entry criteria
Evidence of basic instrument or vocal ability based on audition. Audition times are available by appointment from the 2nd of September.
