Accredited qualification
You'll focus on gaining the skills and attributes of an engineering technician. We use the Engineering New Zealand graduate profile for technicians, which is benchmarked internationally to the Dublin Accord.

Become an engineering technician in the fields of civil or mechanical engineering.
Entry criteria
Under 20 years
10 literacy credits at NCEA Level 1, or higher, 48 credits at NCEA Level 2 in four subjects - including at least 12 credits in maths (preferably credits in algebra, calculus or trigonometry), or successful completion of the NZ Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Engineering), or equivalent qualification/relevant trades training and experience.
If students cannot meet the maths criteria we will run level 2 and level 3 math to allow students to staircase into the Level 4 New Zealand Diploma in Engineering. This is subject to student numbers.
20+ years
If you’re 20 years or over, you may qualify for special admission on this programme. Contact us if you don’t meet the entry criteria as provided on the Under 20 information.
International students
Minimum IELTS (academic) score of 6, with no band score lower than 5.5 or equivalent.
