About the course

To provide a comprehensive background to ship operations at sea, port and drydock. Skills and knowledge enable students to complete all duties required of a deck watchkeeping officer on foreign going ships ultimately leading to a Second Mates ticket. Also successful completion of required papers will entitle students to be awarded the appropriate Maritime New Zealand Qualification: Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch of a foreign Going Ship GMDSS Radio Operator Class 1 Tanker Endorsement Short Courses or Ancillary Certificates: Competence in Advanced Fire fighting Certificate in Signalling
