MIT Certificate in Fabrication Trades and Technology (Level 3)

A graduate of this programme should be able to carry out the functions of a novice fabricator with one years experience in the fabrication trades whilst working under close supervision. The processes carried out in both cognitive and psychomotor domains are planning, marking-out, cutting, forming and assembly. These activities should be carried out in an efficient and economic manner. The knowledge, skills and attributes are being developed by the students from the beginning of the progression from novice to expert at the completion of their apprenticeship. At the completion of this programme graduates will be able to undertake the following under supervision: ? carry out planning to manufacture simple fabricated items ? carry out marking-out processes for simple shapes and problems of a fabrication nature ? perform cutting operations in the manufacture of simple fabricated items ? carry out forming operations in the manufacture of regular shapes for fabricated items ? perform assembly operations in the manufacture of simple fabricated items ? receive and respond to simple technical directions in fabrication ? recognise the process of fabrication and interpret given information on simple fabrication problems ? solve simple fabrication problems ? carry out reflective practice on the quality of their work ? awareness of and ability to maintain safe health and safety practices in the fabrication discipline ? development of appropriate levels of literacy and numeracy to function in a workshop and engage with industry.
