About the course

Graduates from this programme will: Have an understanding in the philosophy, attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to support a person with special learning needs in an education setting. Have the ability to work as a support worker/kaiawhina/ESW in an education setting. Be able to support and contribute to teaching programmes and curriculum delivery, including work with students either individually or in groups which assists their learning. (3.6.2 NZEI Grade B requirement) Demonstrate the foundation skills of literacy, numeracy, oral and written communication, and ICT required in their role as an education support person. Be able to demonstrate bicultural awareness and the ability to support students from diverse cultures. Be able to demonstrate the ability to problem-solve, think critically and reflectively. Be able to pathway onto further education.
