By meeting the competencies for entry to the NCNZ Register of Nurses, the graduate of MITs Bachelor of Nursing programme will be a clinically competent professional registered nurse, who; recognises the significance of the Treaty of Waitangi by upholding its articles and principles within their nursing practice; practises nursing in a caring, holistic manner; practises nursing in a manner that is defined by the recipients of their care as culturally safe, respecting the uniqueness of people and their environments in the practice of nursing; practises nursing as a confident and articulate beginning registered nurse, prepared to develop their leadership potential within diverse, dynamic health contexts, teams and relationships; practises nursing based on current research and evidence based practice; contributes to the achievement of social justice as it relates to the health of individuals, communities and populations through partnership, empowerment, advocacy and socio-political involvement; is an independent life-long learner, flexible and able to respond positively to changes within a dynamic global and local health environment.
