This programme is for you if you are:

An Internationally Qualified Nurse - Meet competence requirements to register to practice in New Zealand.

Returning to Nursing - You were registered in New Zealand but you have been out of practice for 5 years or more.
About this programme
This Competency Assessment Programme (CAP) enables registered nurses to meet competence requirements of the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Graduates can apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand for a New Zealand Registered Nurse Practising Certificate, and can work in all healthcare settings.
This flexible course consists of 2 weeks theory and up to 6 weeks clinical. Students must attend class for 2 compulsory days in the 2 week theory component.

You will be able to:

Demonstrate competency in the Nursing Council of New Zealand required domains of professional responsibility, management of nursing care, interpersonal relationships, inter-professional health care and quality improvement

Apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand for a New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate
Preceptors and clinical teachers provide one to one support in clinical placements and online.

Entry Requirements
New Zealand Applicants
Prior to enrolment all New Zealand applicants must have a registration number from NCNZ. It is recommended that the Nursing Council is contacted prior to enrolment to confirm requirements for maintaining individual practicing certificate.
International Applicants
Prior to enrolment all international applicants must contact the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) to obtain a letter from NCNZ giving directions to the individual applicant regarding English language and competence requirements. International applicants should contact the International Office.
All Applicants
All applicants will be required to disclose any previous criminal convictions, any charges awaiting hearing and declare any health issues that are likely to impact on their ability to undertake the course at the time of application. Successful applicants will need to provide a clearance from the Ministry of Justice’s computer systems.
All applicants will be required to provide the names and contact details of 2 people who are prepared to act as confidential referees.
Whangārei Applicants
Places on this course are very limited, and preference is given to applicants living in the Northland area.
