About the course
The Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts graduates will: ? be capable of functioning as independent, efficient and effective creative practitioners within a range of contexts; ? possess both broad and in-depth knowledge of contemporary, historical, social and theoretical contexts for design and visual arts practice; ? be skilled at applying design and visual art principles to realise creative possibilities and solutions that are imaginative, appropriate and professionally presented; ? be well informed of current and available technologies relevant to their discipline, and are aware of the implications to technological advancement and changing contexts in relation to practice within that discipline; ? be confident and capable of asserting themselves creatively within the creative professions and with members of other stakeholder groups; ? promote change through design and visual arts in ways that are positive, progressive, culturally inclusive and both environmentally and socially responsible; ? be conversant with matauranga Maori, the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori perspectives and values in general as they relate to the creative professions; ? be capable of forming and expressing, through discussion and debate, personal opinions that have direct or indirect relevance to industry and operate professionally by using written, oral and visual communication skills; ? have experience of working collaboratively, and where appropriate, of asserting leadership within the creative professions; ? be inclined to further their learning through taking initiatives in conducting self directed study and pursue the goals of research, to discover reliable knowledge about creative practice.
