About the course
This project based programme is ideal for school leavers or adults who would like an introduction to a range of hands on and digital skills in visual creative media. Successful completion of this certificate will assist your application into one of the Level 5 diplomas in Art and Design, Fashion or Screen Production, or the Bachelor of Creative Practice.
Programme Outline
During the NZ Certificate in Arts and Design [Level 4] you will develop skills and knowledge in a range of hands on media, and build entry level skills in Adobe Creative Suite programmes.
As a graduate of this qualification you will be able to:
- Apply a variety of introductory skills and techniques in art, design and fashion.
- Apply creative processes and techniques to solve problems in response to a brief.
- Demonstrate introductory work practices in the creative arts, and explore potential education and employment pathways.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements
To be admitted to this programme, applicants must meet the following admission requirements:
· Successful completion of NZ2626 Certificate Arts and Design (L3) or equivalent qualification
OR
· NCEA Level 2 (including 10 Literacy credits at Level 2 and 10 Numeracy Credits at Level 1)
OR
· Equivalent academic achievement
Selection Process
Limits on enrolment may be applied due to health and safety reasons and/or availability of resourcing. Should limits be placed on enrolment, the following selection criteria will apply:
Applicants will undergo an interview to establish their interest in arts and design and provide a portfolio of work if available.
English Language Entry Requirements
Applicants for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language are required to provide proof of English proficiency.
The required level of proficiency for this programme is:
· successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction (subject to the conditions in EIT’s Database for English Language Proficiency (DELP))
· completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3 with any endorsement)
· IELTS Academic score of 5, with no band score lower than 5, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment
· accepted international equivalents to the above IELTS scores, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment (see equivalency tables in the DELP)
Domestic learners who have completed the majority or all of their education in New Zealand are deemed to have met this requirement.
*This course is not available to international students.
