About the course

Graduates will be able to: Safely carry out general motor industry engineering tasks; Select and use hand tools and workshop equipment in and automotive application safely; Explain the operation of 2 and 4 stroke engines; Carry out basic tuning on a small four stroke petrol engine; Disassemble and assemble a small four cylinder four stroke engine to a running state; Test,
iagnose and rectify faults in small two stroke petrol engines; Select and apply lubricants and sealants for automotive use; Inspect and rectify manual starting system component faults in small engines; Describe automotive ignition systems; Identify a wiring diagram and translate information to an automotive circuit Test automotive circuits; Carry out automotive wiring repairs and replace a wiring circuit Graduates will have acquired a range of literacy and numeracy skills equipping them for employment, or for continuing study.
Employment opportunities include: Repairing and maintaining small engines or Moving into Automotive Apprenticeship Holders of this qualification may apply for entry into further tertiary education and training programmes relating to this field of study. These include the Certificate in Automotive Technology (Level 3) and Certificate in Automotive Technology (Level 4)
