About the course
Poutuarongo Kawa Oranga graduates will have the skills and knowledge required to provide guidance and leadership in te taha tinana within whanau, hapu and iwi. They will be agents for the promotion of Kawa Oranga and will add an important dimension to M?ori lifestyle advancement across successive generations.

Entry requirements
The Poutuarongo Kawa Oranga encourages expressions of interest from people with an interest in one or more of the following areas: Maori Health Promotion, Maori Performance and Particpation in Sport, Maori Performance and Participation in Exercise.
Applicants should:
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both te reo Maori and English.
- Have a desire to make a positive contribution to Maori wellbeing, specifically within the key areas of Maori health promotion and Maori performance and participation in sport and exercise.
- Be committed to expressing kaupapa and embracingte reo and matauranga Maori as vehicles for Maori lifestyle advancement.
- Be prepared to engage in personalised Kawa Oranga, with an emphasis on regular physical activity, optimal nutrition and positive lifestyle modification strategies.
- Have a strong level of support from wh?nau or work colleagues for the duration of study within the Poutuarongo Kawa Oranga degree.
- Be aged 17 years old or over.
If applicable, have existing qualifications or suitable experience in either sport, exercise, nutrition, Maori health or other similar areas.
About the provider
Te Wānanga o Raukawa is a tikanga Māori tertiary education provider with its main campus based in Ōtaki, Aotearoa, New Zealand. Hailed at the time as the 'smallest university in the world' Te Wānanga o Raukawa was established by the Raukawa Marae Trustees in 1981 with only two students.
A special and unique place of learning, Te Wānanga o Raukawa has become recognised over the last 30 years as an opportunity for all to learn within a tikanga Māori community under the principles of the iwi development strategy, Whakatupuranga Rua Mano: Generation 2000.
Whakatupuranga Rua Mano captured the health and wellbeing aspirations of the ART Confederation of Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Te Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai and Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga in the lower North Island of Aotearoa. These are the founding iwi of Te Wānanga o Raukawa.
