About the course

Graduates will have presented a substantial body of work, exhibited and documented to a professional level, and will:
- have command of highly specialised skills in a major visual arts subject area. This includes an understanding of relevant occupational health and safety issues
- have a specialised knowledge of two or more visual arts subject areas
- have a broad knowledge of eight subject areas, relevant occupational health and safety issues
- be able to apply a full range of procedures in a major visual arts subject area in the complex contexts required of the production of a body of related artworks
- have taken responsibility for managing their own research projects with complete accountability for their own outcomes in the form of an exhibition supported by relevant research demonstrated by detailed documentation
- have developed research projects with written outcomes that demonstrate the analysis, synthesis and evaluation of abstract and conceptual data. These will be supported by formatted references
- be able to document studio work digitally and/or photographically, complete research grant applications, create a business plan and have an understanding of subject specific professional practices
- have an understanding of the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi to issues in the visual arts in New Zealand/Aotearoa
- be qualified for entry to postgraduate education

Entry requirements

Completion of 5 years at secondary school with successful completion of units of study in art; or 15 NCEA level 2 credits in English, Art History or similar subject; and evidence of appropriate ability in art and scholarship by submission of a portfolio.
