About the course

Specifically, Bachelor of Applied Social Service graduates will be expected to be able to; ? Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the major theories and models which inform social service practice in Aotearoa New Zealand ? Translate knowledge into solution focused ethical practice ? Acknowledge the unique place of tangata whenua in Aotearoa and practice in accordance with the principles of Te Tiriti Ô Waitangi ? Work safely and effectively from a bicultural and multi cultural paradigm ? Be critically reflective in their practice ? Understand the structural causes of oppression and marginalisation in Aotearoa New Zealand ? Address and challenge barriers, inequalities and injustices which establish and maintain marginalisation, dispossession, discrimination and oppression. ? Interpret social policy and legislation related to the delivery of social services in Aotearoa New Zealand ? Establish and maintain self care strategies including professional supervision in their role as social service workers ? Be committed to ongoing professional development
