NZ Certificate in Teaching Individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities

Course details

NZ Certificate in Teaching Individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities
NZQF Level 5

About the course

People with dyslexia and other specific learning disabilities (SLD) often suffer years of failure and despondency.  You could be the one to nurture them to success.  Graduates will understand the theories of specific learning disabilities; have an increased awareness of the learning needs of children and adults with learning difficulties; and have the skills to develop and implement an individualised teaching programme for students with specific learning disabilities.

We use proven, research-based methodology to train our SPELD NZ Teachers on our Level 5, NZQA-approved programme:

  • Priority is given to those who intend to become SPELD NZ Teachers;
  • The 600-hour programme runs from February to November. We recommend allocating (on average) 16 hours per week to complete this training;
  • The programme is delivered mainly online with a five day face-to-face workshop in Auckland during the July school holidays;
  • Training subsidies may be available in some regions for those who intend to become SPELD NZ Teachers.  Those who do not complete the practicum after the Level 5 training must return the funding.

    For further information, see the Training page of our website and/or contact [email protected] or call 028 2550 7415.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have evidence of completion of a New Zealand-recognised primary, secondary or early childhood teaching qualification and at least one year of experience in the classroom.
