About the course
The Certificate in Guiding Children's Behaviour requires students to show they can apply knowledge and demonstrate skills learned. Students participate in a practicum module where they are required to attend a specified number of hours in an educational setting working with children. This experience allows the student to put theory into practice in a real setting and to successfully achieve the course outcomes. Student must have access to an appropriate learner group in order to complete practicum. The course aims to enable people seeking to enter employment as a teacher aide, or those currently employed as teacher aides, to achieve a specialised education support qualification. It is a component of the Certificate in Teacher Aiding Level 4 and potential pathway to a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Primary or Secondary
Entry requirements
Applicants must be 18 years of age or over, be New Zealand citizens or a Permanent Resident. They must pass a literacy screening test (or equivalent if studying intramurally or in mixed mode) and obtain a satisfactory Police check. Applicants must provide evidence of the following: sufficient opportunities to work with children, in an educational setting, in order to meet the course practicum requirements; access to a qualified teacher to supervise practicum; access to a computer that meets requirements with broadband for the online mode of delivery; proficiency in keyboarding skills, ability to access the internet, send and receive emails, attach and retrieve email attachments.
