About the course

Graduates will achieve practical and theoretical skills in managing and repairing standalone PCs and computer networks, and will be able to; assemble and disassemble a computer; partition and format hard disk drives; create a dual boot system; understand network topologies, media protocols and architectures; understand the use of hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and other connectivity devices; understand the fundamentals and principals of security of a computer network and how to apply these in various situations; install and upgrade operating systems; deploy an operating system over a network; configure network connectivity and customise; configure settings; configure security settings; troubleshoot and repair hardware, operating systems, and networks; demonstrate communication skills including communication with people from other cultures and ethnicities, and maintain job related professionalism; give and receive feedback; demonstrate advanced problem solving skills; handle software distribution and updates; monitor server operations; and present for the CompTIA A+ (Certified Computer Technician certification), CompTIA Linux+ (Certified Linux Technician), Microsoft MCITP ? Enterprise Support Technician.
Successful students will be able to seek cross credits at another tertiary institution and study at a higher level.
Graduates who do not proceed to further study will be able to obtain employment as enterprise support persons, Linux networking support, and various help desk roles.
