About the course
This qualification is for people working in the Outdoor Recreation industry. It has been designed to be assessed in the workplace and to recognise the broad range of applied skills, knowledge and experience required by employers in this sector. Holders of this qualification will have demonstrated a specialist technical ability or leadership, guiding or instruction skills, at Level 4 or above.
The qualification is made up of two elective sections. Elective A recognises the relevant Outdoor Recreation skills and knowledge and is flexible to encourage customisation depending on the individual's training needs and career aspirations. Elective B allows for the choice of transferable and desirable skills in health and safety, te ao turoa, leadership, driving, first line management, avalanche, and communication skills.
This qualification can be an entry point for people working in the Outdoor Recreation industry. It can also lead to the National Certificate in Outdoor Recreation (Instruction) with strands in Adventure Based Learning, Kayaking, Mountaineering, Single Pitch Rock Climbing, and Tramping [Ref: 0733] or the National Diploma in Outdoor Recreation (Instruction) (Level 5) [Ref: 1191].
