About the course
This qualification is for people entering the radio industry, or who are presently engaged within it and aspire to specialise in the area of radio programming. It provides an introduction to the industry and specifically to programming.
The certificate is a stand-alone qualification comprised of compulsory standards and an elective section. Those who are credited with it will have an introductory knowledge of radio broadcasting, radio broadcasting law, radio station format, branding, radio rating and promotions. Learners will have the skills to perform a range of programming related activities in an employment situation. Skills include:
. The design of radio station formats;
. on air branding;
. monitoring performance of on-air voice;
. managing and maintaining music research;
. scheduling and managing playlists;
. conducting radio research and interpreting radio ratings; and
. designing and managing radio promotions.
The elective section will allow learners to develop the skills required to produce a radio programme. This qualification will also allow learners to develop broad and transferable skills such as research, design, analysis, problem solving, communication skills, as well as how to work with other people.
People may enter this qualification with the National Certificate in Radio (Foundation Skills) [Ref: 0298] and will have some of the unit standards towards this qualification. This certificate recognises an advance in those skills, and some complementary ones that are relevant to the requirements of programming, and to positions such as programme producer and/or programme director in the industry.
