This qualification is a progression from the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Cosmetology) (Level 3) [Ref: 0631], some of whose credits can be used for this qualification. This qualification in turn could lead to other qualifications in Beauty Services such as the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Beautician) (Level 4) [Ref: 1046]; the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) (Level 4) [Ref: 1047]; and the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Electrology) (Level 5) [Ref: 1048]. Some credits achieved for this qualification can also be used for these other Beauty Services qualifications.

The best part is you get paid to learn, as you’ll be paid a wage by your employer throughout the course of your apprenticeship.
To become a HITO hairdressing, barbering or beauty therapy apprentice, you must be fully employed in a salon, barbershop or clinic anywhere in New Zealand. Once you’re employed, you’re able to sign a training agreement with your employer and HITO.
HITO have Sales and Training Advisors across the country who will support your apprenticeship journey by visiting your workplace and providing you with training materials to support your learning and assessments.
Hairdressing, barbering, and beauty therapy apprentices
have many opportunities to progress into senior roles. The communication,
business and problem-solving skills they gain during their training prepare
them for a range of careers in and outside of the hair and beauty industries.
