About the course
Elective standards recognise the skills for particular areas including aircraft painting, aircraft furnishing and equipment, aircraft servicing, aeronautical machining, aircraft mechanical maintenance, aeronautical storekeeping, aircraft structures, aeronautical non destructive testing, and welding. These are particular jobs within the process of aircraft manufacture and the flexibility in the elective section enables these functions to be recognised across multiple workplaces.
The certificate is structured to ensure that holders have a concentration of specialist skills required for an operator working under either, Part 145, Part 146, and/or Part 148 of the Civil Aviation Rules 1990.
This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge covered in the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2) [Ref: 1220]. Candidates may progress towards the National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering with strands in Aeronautical Non Destructive Testing, Aircraft Mechanical, Aircraft Powerplant, Aircraft Structures, Armament, Avionic Electrical Repair, Avionic Instrument Repair, Avionic Maintenance, Avionic Radio Repair, and Rotorcraft [Ref: 0192].
