About the course

This certificate is a nationally recognised qualification for candidates who are employed in the security industry and other related sectors.

The qualification represents competence in generic skills of problem solving and implementing a health and safety plan; and security specific skills of investigation, evidence preservation, and identifying and minimising risk, with strand skills to match senior roles in the security industry. The following strands are available:
. Senior Security Officer represents competence in a range of additional elective security knowledge and skills which may be combined with knowledge of coordinated incident management systems, and skills in workplace assessment and/or report writing.
. Team Leader represents competence in leading a security team, establishing and maintaining positive workplace relationships, time management and work planning complemented by additional elective knowledge and/or skills.

After qualifying for the certificate in one strand, candidates may qualify for the additional strand by completing the requirements for that strand.

This qualification builds on and shares some standards with the National Certificate in Security with strands in Court Security, Event Security, Mobile Patrol, Noise Control, Retail Security, Secure Transport, Site Security, and Community Security [Ref: 0227]. It may lead to the National Certificate in Security Management (Supervision) (Level 5) [Ref: 0561], the National Diploma in Security (Level 6) [Ref: 1059], or the National Diploma in Security Management (Level 6) [Ref: 0562].

Entry requirements

Hold or be able to obtain a Certificate of Approval (COA) from the Registrar of Security Guards and Investigators. Candidates selected on previous education including literacy, ability to complete study at home, physical ability to perform required tasks. Internationals IELTS Score of 5.5 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the written band.
