About the course
This qualification is intended for people working in the masonry industry who are engaged in one or more of the industry sectors of Monumental Masonry, Natural Stone Fixtures and Fittings, and Banker Masonry.
Holders of this qualification will be able to demonstrate knowledge and practical skills used in masonry and stonework industry, including polishing, packing, loading, and dispatching natural stone products.
Skills for the industry sectors are represented in the strands. These skill areas will relate to the activities below and be specific to the selected industry sector:
. Working with monuments involving designing, inscribing, installing, restoring and selling memorials, and demonstrating knowledge of cemetery planning, layout and bylaws.
. Working with natural stone materials involving specifying materials and methods for construction, selecting and procuring stone, cutting and shaping, fabricating, fitting, laying, and fixing natural stone.
. Working with banker masonry processes involving appraising and selecting stone blocks, primary and secondary preparation of raw materials, shaping, deep carving, fixing and laying stone slabs, and restoring, preserving and maintaining stone features, monuments and buildings.
. The masonry industry places importance in demonstrating safety in their work environment.
The qualification is a career pathway for people working or intending to work in the masonry trade and has standards in common with the National Certificate in Stonemasonry [Ref: 0336].
