About the course

The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 4) provides holders with recognition of skills and knowledge related to the world of work, career interventions, and career information. Holders of the qualification have skills and competencies required to hold roles such as front line customer service in a specific career information and service setting.

In order to fulfil these roles a basic knowledge of the world of work (labour market trends, education, training, demographics, social impacts, client interests, values, and psycho-social development, politics, and economics) and the pathways through which people can prepare for and enter different paid and unpaid work is required. The range of skills and competencies include provision of support and information that assist people to make decisions about their careers and the ability to identify the requirements of people who seek information and support, and how to address those requirements.

The compulsory section covers skills such as client customer service in a career practice context as well as career development theory, equity issues in career practice and professional development as a career practioner.

The elecitve section allows the candidate to choose standards to further develop skills in the career practice, interpersonal communication skills and writing techniques.

The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 4) (Ref: 1586) is designed to provide a pathway to the National Diploma in Career Practice (Level 6) [Ref: 1588] but is not a prerequisite. This qualification and the National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 5) [Ref: 1587] have standards in common.
