Course details

National Diploma in Seafood Maori (Iwi Fisheries Asset Management) (Level 5)
NZQF Level 5

About the course

This qualification is for people who are looking to extend their experience, skills and knowledge in working within Iwi Fisheries management contexts. This may include roles that provide strategic governance and/or management of iwi fisheries assets such as directors of asset holding companies, and trustees and/or representatives of mandated iwi organisations.

All of the standards in this qualification are compulsory because they cover knowledge and skills that are essential in understanding the components of Iwi Fisheries Asset Management. These standards cover comparing Iwi Fisheries Asset Management plans; developing and presenting an Iwi Fisheries Asset Management plan; locating, summarising, critiquing, and evaluating fisheries research relevant to an iwi fisheries asset management context; demonstrating knowledge of optimising Iwi Fisheries Assets; and comparing, contrasting, and evaluating the application of tikanga Maori in Iwi Fisheries Asset Management.

This qualification builds on skills and knowledge in the National Certificate in Seafood Maori (Customary Fishing Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 1065], the National Certificate in Seafood Maori (Iwi Asset Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 1474], and the National Certificate in Seafood Maori (Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki) (Level 4) [Ref: 1373].

Primary ITO aims to help New Zealand’s primary sector flourish by growing people’s skills. We lead work-based education and training across the many industries in the primary sector.

We firmly believe that on-the-job training is the future of learning

That can be supported by online and in-person learning where those are the best options. People earn while they learn, and businesses get value from their staff from day one. Better skills enable people to be more productive and lead more fulfilling and rewarding work lives.

We support people throughout the country

In 2023, we had around 14,000 learners at around 4500 different workplaces around the country. At Primary ITO, we pride ourselves on being up driveways, at the end of dirt roads, on the factory floor, online or in the classroom. Whatever it takes to support our learners.

We support learners from start to finish

We support learners all the way from introductory programmes and our schools-based Trades Academy, through to apprenticeships and management diplomas.

We design training and assessment for the workplace, so employees can learn on the job while gaining real-world industry experience.
