About the course

This National Certificate recognises essential skills and knowledge required by people working in waste handling industries (excluding waste water). The holder of the qualification is able to work safely in a waste handling workplace, under supervision.

The compulsory section recognises knowledge of safe handling and disposal of solid waste, and skills in identifying hazardous and special wastes and in safe work practices.

In acknowledgement of the diversity of solid and hazardous waste workplaces, the elective section enables candidates to select standards or skills relevant to their employment context.

The optional strand recognises specialist skills in handling hazardous waste.

This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Solid Waste Disposal (Landfill Entry Control) (Level 3) [Ref: 1399] and the National Certificate in Solid Waste Disposal (Landfill Operations) (Level 3) [Ref: 1400].

This qualification with the optional strand in Hazardous Waste leads to the National Certificate in Hazardous Waste (Processing and Disposal) (Level 3) [Ref: 1402], the National Certificate in Hazardous Waste (Processing and Disposal) (Level 4) [Ref: 1403], the National Certificate in Solid Waste Disposal (Landfill Management) with optional strands in Gas Extraction, Leachate Removal, and Tiphead Control [Ref: 1401], and the National Diploma in Hazardous Waste (Processing and Disposal) (Level 5) [Ref: 1404].
