About the course

This qualification includes all the requirements for the National Certificate in Maritime (Commercial Vessel Hospitality Crew Member) (Level 2) [Ref: 0524]. It is for people who are employed as experienced crew members providing passenger services on commercial vessels. These people are often supervisors responsible for crew members on their shift. It has been designed to be achieved in an on-job situation and recognises the skills and knowledge required by a wide range of employers as being important to commercial and tourist operators.

The compulsory section of the qualification covers the knowledge and skills related to first aid, workplace health and safety, practicing food safety, contamination hazards and control methods, dealing with customer complaints, sea survival techniques, crowd control during a marine emergency, providing customer service and demonstrating a positive image for the workplace. It also covers the knowledge and skills related to providing alcoholic beverage services, providing counter food and beverage services, preparing and presenting espresso beverages, preparing for and handling payment transactions, providing on-board customer services to passengers, creating in-store displays and ordering goods to meet pre-set stock levels.

Elective 1 enables candidates to select standards from the navigation and seamanship and sea survival and sea safety domains that fit with their job roles.

Elective 2 enables candidates to select standards from the People Development and Coordination, Assessment of Learning, Delivery of Adult Education and Training, Hospitality - Generic, Hospitality - Specific Skills, Navigation and Seamanship, and Sea Survival and Sea Safety domains that fit with their job roles.
