About the course
Following completion of this course, students will demonstrate ability to: -+ Extend existing bodies of knowledge in an area specific to social work through intellectual independence, analytic rigour and critical evaluation. -+ Master theoretical issues and research methods related to social work and critically analyse bodies of knowledge in social work and apply this knowledge to their own contexts. -+ critically read and appraise research in social work published in peer-reviewed social work and related journals. -+ apply knowledge of current theories of social service practice through the development of skills that allow the pursuit of scholarly interest in specific fields of social work practice. -+ apply knowledge of methodological and theoretical issues that relate to cultural competence as it relates to research and practice principles with Maori and other diverse cultural groups. -+ Provide leadership in specific areas of social work practice through the dissemination of information in workplace and through clinical supervision and mentoring of students and beginning practitioners. Graduates who achieve the qualification with merit or higher may be eligible for admission to the Master of Social Work degree Graduates will already be employed as social workers. This postgraduate diploma aids their professional development as advanced practitioners and specialists in particular fields of practice and may enhance their career progression.
