Animals are such an important part of our lives, and taking care of them is a fast-growing industry for employment. Whether you want to be handling animals or working in a place that deals with animals, this course is for you!

On this programme you can choose to specialise your study in one of three areas.

Equine Strand: Choosing Horses will provide you the skills to care for horses in a safe manner. You could find work in a variety of industries like racing, show- jumping and horse trekking.

Companion Animals Strand: Choosing Companion Animals will provide you the skills to care for dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and all sorts of pets. You could end up working at a vet clinic, the SPCA, a pet shop, kennels, pet groomers – the options are endless!

Lifestyle Block Animals Strand: Choosing Lifestyle Block Animals is great for those who have or intend to have their own lifestyle block. The programme covers caring for horses, pigs and all our feathered friends which means you can get the most out your block.

GRADUATES WILL BE ABLE TO comply with all regulatory requirements and relevant industry codes of practice for animal care respond to normal and abnormal health and behaviour in animals assist with the day to day care of animals

Entry requirements

For entry it is desirable that applicants have 9 NCEA Level 2 credits in a science subject (preferably biology) or equivalent, and 12 NCEA Level 1 numeracy credits or equivalent, and 12 NCEA Level 1 literacy credits or equivalent.
