About the course

Boost your career in the automotive industry by becoming qualified with MITO’s Light Vehicle training programme. Whether you are new to the industry or already experienced, the skills and knowledge gained through this innovative training programme will put you in the driver’s seat towards becoming a qualified Automotive Technician (Light Vehicle).   The programme includes a mix of workplace practical learning and eLearning which allows you to complete theory elements of the programme in your own time and at your own pace. You can access eLearning resources, including videos, interactive simulations and online theory assessments, at any time and from any device – mobile phone, tablet or computer. Real-time results and progress reports are available through MITO’s online Portal to both you and your supervisor.Programme Outline  The training programme offers a substantial training opportunity, enabling you to meet the complex challenges of servicing vehicles in today’s environment and to meet future needs, such as working safely on electric vehicles.   Choose to complete one or both of the following qualifications: New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 3) New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 4).   Learning outcomes include:

Follow workplace policies, procedures and relevant regulations to work safely and effectively in an automotive workshop Use tools and equipment to complete basic workshop engineering tasks Apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service engine, and driveline systems Check operation of, and perform minor repairs on, electrical and electronic systems Apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service steering, suspension and brake systems Monitor the workplace and respond to issues as required to maintain a safe and effective workplace Apply the appropriate precautionary measures when servicing and repairing high risk light automotive systems Diagnose and repair common faults in light vehicle engines and driveline systems Diagnose and repair common faults in light vehicle electrical and electronic systems Diagnose and repair common faults in light vehicle steering, suspension and braking systems.
