About the course
Overview
This programme is designed for emergent speakers of te reo Māori with an advanced understanding and ability in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
Through full immersion in te reo Māori, you will develop the ability to communicate independently and express ideas and theories with increasing fluency and flexibility across a range of familiar and some less familiar contexts.
You will further develop your knowledge of te reo Māori, including grammar, syntax, language variation, kīanga, tikanga and the ways te reo is used within te ao Māori. Learning includes opportunities for authentic engagement with te ao Māori and local contexts.

Domestic Entry Requirements
Applicants must have one of the following:
- Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 3) or equivalent, OR
- NCEA Level 3 Te Reo Māori, AND
- Aromatawai ā-waha, kanohi ki te kanohi (oral, face-to-face assessment) with the programme lecturer.
