About the course

This programme enables learners to gain valuable skills and knowledge required to provide culturally appropriate person-centred support in health or wellbeing setting.


What you will learn:

Through Cavalli College’s blended study modes of learning, including online access, face-to-face and practice-based classroom teaching experiences, along with our unique student support, you will:

  • Provide culturally appropriate, inclusive person-centred care under the supervision of a health professional.
  • Communicate effectively to foster positive relationships and appreciate diversity.
  • Recognise and respond to signs of change, vulnerability or abuse.
  • Understand relevant legislation, regulations and codes to provide ethical and professional healthcare.
Achieving this qualification will help you to:
  • Develop your career in a range of healthcare settings, including home-based care.
  • Find employment in a support role such as a healthcare assistant in a range of contexts including aged care, disability and other support services.

Entry requirements

Domestic learners:


Academic entry

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old to commence the programme.

English proficiency

  • All applicants for whom English is an additional language and te reo Māori is not the first language must provide evidence of meeting English language requirements according to Rule 22 of the NZQA Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2025 for a level 3 programme.
International learners:


Academic entry

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old to commence the programme.

English language

  • IELTS (Academic or General) of 5.0 overall with 5.0 in each band OR PTE (A) of 36 overall with 36 in each band OR equivalent of meeting Rule 22 of the NZQA Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2025.

Other

• Hold a current New Zealand Work Visa.
• Succeed in a personal interview and police checks.
